Hawaii's Thousand Friends is dedicated to ensuring that growth is reasonable and responsible, that appropriate planning, management and land use decisions are made that protect the environment, human health and cultural and natural resources, and that decisions are made and proposals are implemented in conformity with the law.

"Legacy Lands bill"   Act 156  Acquisition of Land for Conservation and Environmental Protection
Adjusts conveyance tax. Requires 10 percent of real estate conveyance tax collected be deposited into the land conservation fund.  Increases to 30% the amount of the conveyance tax paid into the rental housing trust fund.  Allows grants to state agencies, counties, and nonprofit land conservation organizations to acquire interest in lands having a value as a resource to the State.  Provides stable funding mechanism for the natural area reserves system. Appropriates funds for the purchase of agriculture easements.
